Needs Major Improvements for Real-World Merchants
I really wanted to like Shopify Subscriptions — it seemed like a clean, native solution. Unfortunately, it falls short in a few critical ways that make it hard to manage customers and maintain trust.
First, subscription pricing doesn’t update when product prices change. Customers continue seeing old prices in their accounts, which causes confusion and unnecessary emails trying to clarify what they’re actually paying. This should be basic functionality.
Second, there’s no way to “Ship Now” or manually adjust the next processing date. That’s a major frustration for both merchants and customers. When someone wants to move up their next order, the only workaround is to cancel and start a new subscription — which is clunky and completely unnecessary.
I’ve contacted Shopify multiple times, and while support is friendly, these limitations have existed for months with no sign of change. I love Shopify as a platform, but this app feels unfinished and lacks the flexibility that serious subscription businesses need.
Please prioritize these features — they’re essential for merchants who rely on subscriptions to keep customers happy.
People cannot cancel or pause subscriptions. It has created issues for us.
This app is majorly undeveloped and has caused me nothing but time, headaches, and problems.
1. No search function to easily look up subscriptions by customer or product.
2. Very limited function for customers, they cannot add/delete products to a recurring subscription or even alter frequency. Causing a lot of wasted time for our staff to help with a basic function.
3. No option to choose a date or have a subscription run early. Usually, resorting to customers having to cancel or our staff having to do a very tedious work around that again wastes time.
4. If you pause a subscription and restart it is for the next billing cycle as originally set up, not for that day.
5. Lots of glitches with skipped inventory and no way to alert shopowner. to skipped subscriptions.
6. Importing from another app is inadvisable. Formatting is a nightmare and even though there is supposedly a failsafe to prevent duplicate subscriptions. We got quite a few, even some in triple. Worse when speaking to a customer that had a triplicate subscription, she only saw one in her account.
We have had a lot of cancellations and unhappy customers. Save yourself some time, You are better off with a third party app.
